Able Seafare Deck

Scope

This course is designed to comply with the requirements of Regulation II/5, Section A‐II/5, Table A‐ II/5 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, STCW 1978, as amended.

Goals

Train crew procedures and navigation techniques and provide the officer on duty a person with the skills and abilities required to attend the same during the course of the navigational watch, maneuvers or in port. The seafarer will be able to assist the officer on duty at bridge in all functions related to instrumentation, navigation equipment and bridge procedures.

Prerequisites

This course is available to ordinary deckhands who wish to be part of a navigational watch, or those sailors with experience as helmsman or AB seaman aboard merchant ships. No pre‐requisite to participate in this course, however, participants must be of legal age (18 or older) and possess a certificate of good health.
