Medical Care

Scope:

This course is designed to comply with the requirements laid down in Regulation VI/4 Section VI/4 table VI/4‐2 of the International Convention for the training, certification, and guard for the people of sea, STCW/78, as amended.

General Objectives:

The participant must ensure training, attitude and ability to be responsible for the medical care of the crew during and after to launching as required in the Table VI/4‐2, as well as with Chapter VI, section A‐VI/4 of the International Convention for training, certification and Watchkeeping for seafarers, STCW/78, as amended.

Specific objectives:

The specific objectives are described in each of the units and instructional modules of the development plan for this course.

Prerequisites:

The course is open to seafarers who will be appointed to be in charge of medical care on board ships. Those who comes into the course should have successfully completed training in first aid on board ship, as specified in the course model IMO 1.14 of first aid.

The course is also open to seafarers who have previously completed this training medical centers who want to comply with the recommendation contained in document IMO / ILO orientation of 1985 a refresher course must be conducted at intervals of about five years.
