General Operator’s Certificate for Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)
Scope
This course is designed to meet the requirements of Rule IV/2 Section A‐IV/2 Table A‐IV/2 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, STCW / 78, as amended.
General Objectives
The participant having completed the course will be able to transmit and receive information using subsystems and GMDSS equipment and fulfilling the functional requirements of the GMDSS.
Prerequisites
This course framework assumes little knowledge of the practice of maritime radio but a working knowledge of English as a Second Language. Basic computer skills are assumed in the course schedule is recommended. Additional training will be required for those who lack basic skills in using computers
